Because he was. At this point Will Smith was just coming off 7 consecutive $100 million grossing movies. Diversified his range by starring in multiple genres. Still had a strong rap career at the time, and was a black man doing it.

So let’s recap.

Will smith was known as the most powerful man in Hollywood for multiple reasons.

7 consecutive $100 million dollar movies is an incredibly rare feat that only few have done.

At this point in time he was also starring in multiple genres.

Will was also rapping actively to further his brand.

And was doing all of this as a black man.

Wow, sounds pretty powerful to me.
