Gogeta smiled at Broly because he was impressed that it took him having to use as much power as he did to beat him. Broly was clearly too much for both Goku and Vegeta as individuals, and his rage was causing so much destruction it was all he could do.

Final Thoughts

Broly is a savage.

It was clear that needing the likes Gogeta was an indicator of his power, and his smiling was an ode of respect.
