A trauma bond can turn healthy, but knowing the signs make it easier for yourself and your partner, moving forward.
I wanna take the time to acknowledge a symbol of what I like to acknowledge the month as black appreciation month.
It’s a tag I started on Facebook, seriously.
But I thought it would make sense at some point to share a black business owner’s product, especially if it fixes problems.
I’d like to present Dr. Erik Clark’s Blunt Force Trauma – A Black American Life

There’s more on how it relates to the question.
But let’s move on.
Can a trauma bond become healthy?
It’s possible to have a healthy relationship from a trauma bond, it’s highly unlikely though.
There are traits that you should look for to confirm that you’re in a trauma bond relationship, they’re:
- Mirroring
- False promising
- Abuse
- Intermittent Reinforcement
Although these are the traits of a trauma bond, it’ll be best to just understand what makes a healthy love.
Mirroring
Mirroring in a trauma bond induced relationship is when the behavior of the victim is mimicked by the abuser.
False Promising
This stage is when facades are put up by the abuser, making the victim think things will change, but leads to broken promises.
Abuse
I like to use movies to draw parallels to real life, and there’s one that relates best to an abusive trauma bond, Beauty and the Beast.
Intermittent Reinforcement
Kate Munden said it well, by referring to intermittent reinforcement as the bread crumbs of love.
Healthy love
Did you know it’s actually normal to feel like a healthy love is weird?
Final Thoughts
It’s definitely possible to gain a healthy love, but it does help to identify the makings of a trauma bond.
Again, they’re:
- Mirroring
- False promising
- Abuse
- Intermittent Reinforcement
