Should i do wrestling? (The REAL answer & 5 FAQs)

As someone who’s been in the sport for over a decade, and wrestled at the collegiate level, this is a fun post for me to do.

I may be a little biased because I have an undying allegiance to the growth of the sport, but it’s time to do it.

I’ll be answering if you should do wrestling.

Should i do wrestling?

There’s plenty of good reasons to do wrestling at some point in your life. One of the best is the strength you get. There’s so many different body parts that get improved from the trainings of a wrestler. Also, you get a great adjustment to body fat as a result of the cardio you build up from the sport.

Stronger

Wrestling makes you stronger because it uses so many different muscle groups in action.

Lower body fat

The body fat from wrestling get reduced faster, and greater than most sports because of the intensity of most workouts.

Improved cardiovascular endurance

Wrestling requires a series of short-intense bursts of energy over the course of 7 minutes, which improves cardio overall.

Wrestling FAQs

It’s one of the most difficult activities to be part of in high school, because of the physical and mental challenges.

What are the disadvantages of wrestling?

From a financial standpoint, wrestling gear in general can get expensive depending on how long you stay on the sport.

But I try to stay away from using finances for activities as a reason to stay away from it.

However, as far as negative things that I have to say about wrestling, the only real disadvantages are injuries.

The injuries that commonly happen are:

  • Head and face injuries
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Elbow injuries
  • Knee injuries

Granted, you can see injuries happen in any sport, but wrestling is notorious for these types of injuries.

It is a combat sport at the end of the day, so parts that could be potentially clashing are those areas listed above.

Why is wrestling mentally hard?

Wrestling’s considered mentally hard because of the things necessary to be competitive in the sport.

From the weight cutting, to putting multiple matches together consistently to be the champion of certain competitions.

What sport is harder than wrestling?

It’s tough to try and say one sport’s harder than the other, but there’s definitely a list of sports that could be compared to wrestling:

  • Boxing
  • American football
  • MMA
  • Ice hockey
  • Gymnastics
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Rugby
  • Water Polo

Each sport is difficult in its own way, but they’re all worth noting when discussing the topic.

Is wrestling good for ADHD?

Wrestling is great for ADHD recipients who need extra focus in order to be successful (because of the individuality of the sport).

Final Thoughts

There’s so many great reasons to be apart of such a rich sport.

If you wrestled before or do what you can to keep the sport growing, I support you.

Let’s revisit the positives again:

  • Increase in strength
  • Lowered body fat
  • Top tier cardiovascular endurance

The list goes on, but these are great reasons you would want to join the sport, especially if you’re from the outside looking in.
