Have you ever been camping?

Yes. Back in my elementary school years I was part of an extra curricular activity called Baptist Boys Battalion. We did all of the activities you would expect with a group of young men that go camping for the weekend:

  • Group fires
  • Hiking
  • Barbecues
  • Bible study

Places I would go camping now

  • Illinois State Beach
  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Some place cold

Illinois State Beach Park is right in Lake County near my hometown. They offer a few resources to be active in over there:

  • Picnic tables
  • Hiking trails
  • Playgrounds
  • Grills
  • Bike trails
  • Fishing
  • Connecting Marina

Camping FAQs

How do you feel when camping?

When I’m camping it makes me feel closer to the people I met.

From what I remember I felt independent.

There was a masculinity that was exercised when doing it.

There’s a lot of words to compliment the feelings that come with camping but the most appropriate is probably responsible.

Why did I enjoy camping?

I enjoyed camping because I can appreciate nature.

There’s a calmness to being outdoor.

At least my experience with the group I did it with.

That could change and for the better if more equipment gets introduced.

I was with my friends and enjoyed being able to hustle with them so everybody can have fun.

It felt necessary to practice living in nature with other people I wouldn’t normally that activity with.

Sounds like you had some memorable adventures with the Baptist Boys Battalion! Camping, fireside chats, and Bible study sessions must have made for a well-rounded experience.

My favorite was going with my partners to get firewood for the group 😃

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
